Adam Park, who left England at 19 years of age in 1856, travelled to Australia on the Marco Polo, a journey of 6 months, disembarked at Melbourne and travelled throughout NSW and QLD, via horseback and bullock trains, and back again to NSW, attempting to establish his Colonial Life in Australia.
The Adam Park story is a story of challenges, adversity, survival and ultimate success. It is a story worth reading.
The Bullock Trains were an important resource for traveling the rugged bushland in NSW in the Colonial 1800 years, to eventually establish settlements like Manilla.
They trekked the landscape, devoid of roads, over the Great Diving Range and eventually made their way to the Manilla District.
Bullock Trains were an important supply train, carrying necessities to the limited number of inhabitants in Manilla, who lived in timber shanties, and established basic shop fronts to cater for the growing travellers reaching this region.
A fascinating story that draws a picture of the early years in Australia
Along with his father, V. J. Byrnes was one of the Pioneers that established Manilla on a landscape of bushland in the 1800s.
V. J. Byrne began as a pocketbook real estate agent, who forged his life through tenacity, with a personal drive to succeed, and established the important milestone of saleyards in Manilla, that catered for the growing
Pastoral industry in the Manilla district.
V.J., with many others in this era, established Manilla as an important settlement that developed in leaps and bounds in the early 1900s.
